8/1/2004:  svchosting.exe hidden web server program...
svchosting.exe is a new VIRUS program. It is a hidden web server program installed on a Windows system that visits a host or an infected web site. It stops system boot up of system by constant flooding of startup with mutiple copies of file loading. Spysweeper will not stop the constant reloadind attempts and cannot keep regestry file cleaned. svchosting.exe hides as a system file and in registry as "svchosting.exe " and "Win32 USB2 Driver" and locks the registry keys for: "Win32 USB2 Driver" even in safe mode, so even after manual delete of the file "winnt/system32/svchosting.exe" and reg keys, trys to load on startup with file not found errors.

To remove, first download and install the free version of Spysweeper.  During the install select the update Spy sweepers virus / adware definitions when prompted to do so.  After the update, set the "shield" options.   Select ALL of Spy sweepers "shield" options, then under "options" select  the "edit startup programs" and disable " svchosting.exe ".  Minimize Spysweeper and Re-boot Windows IN SAFE MODE....  Now in SAFE MODE, you need to first remove the file " svchosting.exe ".  This is hidden as a FAKE Windows system file and cannot be found until you set your Folder Options.  Open your Control Panel and select " Folder Options".  Select the " View " tab at the top.  Find the line,  "Hidden files and folders", and under it find and select the box or circle for the line, " Show hidden files and folders" .  Next find the line " Hide protected operating system files " and UN Check the box for this line.  Select "OK" and close the Folder Options window.  Now to find and delete the file svchosting.exe, select the "Start" button.....................................................   Next, you need to edit the registry file to remove  all references to "svchosting.exe" and "Win32 USB2 Driver".  To do this select the "Start" button and select "Run".  Type "regedit" into the" open" box and select "OK".   Now, in the Registry Editor, select "Edit" then select  " Find".  In the "Find What" box type " svchosting" and press the "Find Next" button.  When a line is found containing the word "svchosting" delete the entire line.  The search again until you receive the message finished searching or item not found.  Then you need to delete the items containing "Win32 USB2 Driver ".  To start a new search before you select the Edit function you need to move your mouse cursor to the beginning of the registry file.  To do this, on the right side area of the Registry Editor, move your mouse cursor to the top of the text display until the first line is " My Computer".  Select " My Computer" with your mouse to highlight the text, then select Edit, then Find and type "Win32 USB2 Driver" into the box and search for any  lines containing "Win32 USB2 Driver".  Delete these entries like the svchosting.exe lines.   When finished, exit the Registry Editor and immediately restart your computer.

Department: Cpunet Internet Support
Description: Email Hoaxes and Virus:

VIRUS Details:
This week has brought upon the Internet community a lot of new email distributed viruses and hoaxes.
Here are a couple common ones that have been seen today. DO NOT follow the instructions of these emails.

1. W32.Beagle.J@mm - This is a rapidly spreading virus which the From: line of the email is forged stating it's
coming from staff@yourdomain or support@yourdomain or other common support addresses.
It includes a password protected zip file with the password included in the body of the message.
By password protecting the file it prevents all virus scanners from being able to scan it on when you download your email.
This includes the server-side (on-line Cpunet Spam/Virus filter at: http://www.cpunet.net/util.html#spam) filtering as well as Norton, Mcafee and other client side (programs installed on your computer) filters.
More information is at: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.beagle.j@mm.html

2. Similar emails are arriving to customers using the same tactic of spoofing the email address making it appear to be from Cpunet Internet.
Various forms of this email which have been reported to us ask the user to forward them their account information or to open an attachment
(which is usually a .pif or .exe) which includes a virus or worm. To help prevent this,
we would recommend users turn on server-side virus filtering at: http://www.cpunet.net/util.html#spam
Enter the SPAM filter page and set the on-line Virus scanning to: (enabled). Also you can set your email accounts Spam filter to: (enabled).
CPUNET INTERNET WILL NEVER SEND YOU AN EMAIL ASKING FOR YOUR LOGIN OR PASSWORD OR OTHER SENSITIVE ACCOUNT OR PERSONAL INFORMATION!

We would recommend you that all users do a manual update of their ANTI-virus program definitions to ensure that you have the latest updates.
Some of these virus's are new as of today, 3/3/2004.

PLEASE REMEMBER; CPUNET INTERNET WILL NEVER SEND YOU AN EMAIL ASKING FOR YOUR LOGIN OR PASSWORD OR OTHER SENSITIVE ACCOUNT OR PERSONAL INFORMATION!
