About the New SPAM Filters:
CPUnet Internet has discovered a new way to help reduce spam and
virus's from reaching your customers' email boxes. Until
recently there has been no way to stop an email from arriving in a
users mailbox that was mis-addressed to a different domain on our
system. Now, we are happy to report that we have developed a
custom way to restrict mail so only mail bound specifically for your
user@yourdomain.com will successfully arrive in their mailbox.
All other misaddressed email will be rejected and sent back to the
sender/spammer as an invalid email address.
For instance, since we run large redundant servers for multiple ISPs
and you have user with username "john". Since there
can be hundreds of domains on our servers, it gives a spammer a much
more likely chance of hitting your user "john" with spam
because it can arrive to john@domain1.com and john@domain2.com, etc.
Also, some spammers use tactics of sending email to john@everydomainontheplanet.com,
using common usernames. In cases like this your users may have
received many copies all at once of the same spam email. This
will no longer happen. This new system will also reduce the
chances of the "brute force" spammers reaching your
mailbox (ie.. spammers who try aaad@yourdomain.com, aaae@yourdomain.com,
aaaf@yourdomain.com, etc).
We are excited and confident that this new spam fighting system will
help supplement our new spam filters and reduce spam again by up to
80% per user (up to 100% for customers include the service discussed
below and uses the new spam filter link below). This new
update is completely server-side and requires no configuration from
you. Read on to hear about the new, improved, customizable
spam filtering systems also available to you!!
The new spam filter gives you multiple levels of control
(thresholds) on how sensitive it will be towards detecting SPAM.
We would recommend a level between 5-10 for normal usage. The
extremely sensitive settings (1 through 4) will create many false
positives and should be used with care. We would also
recommend to that you select to "Tag message subject"
rather than delete the message until you know you are using the
right threshold setting and not getting any false positives.
For more information you can also click the
(help) buttons next to each item for more detailed
information. These new filters have been tested multiple times
and a few select customers and the bugs do appear to be worked out;
however, if you feel they are doing anything wrong, please do not
hesitate to let us know at: support@cpunet.net.
We will be taking all the input and using it to further enhance the
filters during this beta stage.
You
will need your Cpunet Internet Account User login and
Password. Enter your Cpunet Username (
your Username is the first part of your Email address before
the @ )
in the Login box and your account password in the password
box. You will be taken to the main control panel where
you can maintain your Cpunet email account Spam filter
settings.
Spam Filter Setup
We have implemented an
extremely configurable spam filtering system to help you manage the
ever-growing problem with unsolicited commercial email.
This spam filtering system works by
attaching a points value to specific spam-like characteristics of email,
and tagging the message as spam once the message's points value exceeds a
specific threshold, configurable by you. This allows you to set your spam
filtering preferences to meet your specific needs, The filter also
supports management of "white lists" - lists of addresses which will always
be allowed through - and "blacklists" - lists of addresses which will
always be tagged as spam. Messages can be either immediately deleted, or
have the subject modified to mark the message as spam (which can then be
processed and filtered in your mail program).
As no spam filter is perfect, we
recommend that you configure the filter to deliver all messages while just
marking them as spam, and set up a separate folder in your mail program
and filter the mail there - where it can be checked for "false positives"
which may be important messages. You can also configure the filter to drop
messages tagged as spam, but this can be very dangerous, as
potentially important email could be lost! Use this feature with extreme
caution! Also, no spam filter will eliminate 100% of spam. You can come
back to this page at any time to adjust the spam filter threshold for
your mailbox to fine-tune the filtering results, as well.
To begin configuring your spam
filter, please enter your Cpunet Account username and password in the fields below and

Description: IE Security Update Removes Important
Functionality
In a nutshell they have removed the ability to put http_auth
username and password within the URL. So no longer can you
click a link http://user:pass@www.website.com
as IE will display an error now. In order to secure access to
your online invoices we use have used http_auth for years and it has
worked great within IE until now.
We don't believe MS knew the impact of removing important features
from IE with little to no notice to their customers as there are
many websites which relied on these features. They may reverse
this patch or find a way to fix the security issue without removing
the feature in a future patch. In the meantime, the fixes
above will gain you access to any password protected site that has
the un/pw inside the URL. All future invoice emails will go
out with alternate instructions for IE users as well.
Alternatively, all other browsers still support http_auth inside the
URL. Mozilla/Firebird is working
very well in tests we have run. It can be Downloaded to try
