There are many
ways to use the Options categories. You may use one type
of option for an item in your store or any combination of
options as shown below. Click a link to learn about an
option.
The name of each option field
is set in the store configuration field. For this
demonstration we will use the default fields of: Size,
Color and Option like in the form shown
below.
The Smart-Store Administration
form boxes for entering the option information look like
this:
Size:
Color:
Option:
The
Drop down selection boxes in the store pages
look like this. When adding a new item or
editing an item in the Administration forms, if
you do not enter any data into an option box, no
selection boxes will be shown for that item in
the store. If you enter option data into
an option box, the option selection box will be
shown in the store.
Options
Entering
data strings in the Item Form
The number of
options you may define in each option field is
unlimited. You may need 1 or 2 options for the Size
field and 25 options for the Color field.
To enter the options into the forms you will need to
understand how the fields work. We will split the
data shown in the example shown above in The
Item Option forms to learn the basic data entry
structure.
Each option for
an option field has the following parts:
option
price weight
Each of these
parts must be separated by the +
sign.
Size:
Size:
The
example above makes one option for the field Size.
To add more than
one option to a field the option items; option+price+weight
must be separated by a ( ,
) (comma) .
Size:
Size:
Do
Not put a ( , )
(comma) after the last option.
Remember;
option+price+weight,
This can be
repeated for as many options you need in each field.
To add just an additional
weight to an item if an option is selected, you
would use the following data entry format: option++weight
for the option in the option field.
Since each option has 3
parts: option+price+weight separated by a (
,
) (comma). To
just add weight, enter the option name a +
since there is no price enter another +
and the additional weight
Example:

List options
without adding to price or weight of the item
You may
also need to add options for an item but do not need to
add a price or weight for the options. Just leave
out the price and weight for the option as
shown below.

Remember to
separate the option names with a ( ,
) (comma) .
Using
the options to add to an items price or weight
For this
demonstration we will assume you have made an item in
the store named Cat, where the price for a
generic Cat is $5.00. You also want to have
multiple selections for the types of cats you offer.
Each type may or may not need to have an additional cost
added to the default price. For example; a small
Cat is $5.00 and a large Cat is $10.00. If the
customer selects a small Cat, the price stays the
same. But if a large Cat is selected, $5.00 must
be added to the default price for a Cat. You might
also need to add to the default weight you set for a
generic Cat since a small Cat might weigh 3 pounds and a
large Cat might weigh 5 pounds.
To
use the options like this you would make an item id like
Cat setting the default Item price and item
weight.
Item
Price:
Item Weight in
Pounds:
Example: 1 or .25 or
.5
Then you
then set your first option box something like the
example below with an additional price and weight for
each option.
Size:
Notice
that in the data entered above, the first option
(small), has no added price or weight. This is
because it's price and weight are the same as the
default settings. The second option has an
additional price of $5.00 and a weight of 2 pounds. If
the option large is selected, the total item price will
become $10.00 with a weight of 5 pounds. This will
make a selection box in the store like the example
below:
The example
above will display a selection box like
this. Any options selected will be added
to the default price and or weight
setting for the item.
Click the
arrow in the box above.
Then you
may set the other option boxes if you require more
options for the item Cat. These options if
selected will have their price and weight added to the
total price for the Cat also.
You can use 1, 2 or all three of
the option fields together for an item.
Example:
Size:
Color:
Optional:
Notice in the
example above that every option in the option field does not
have to contain a option, price and weight.
In the Color field, the options just add an additional
price, not a weight. In the Optional field, the short-haired option adds nothing, the long-haired option
adds just a price and the fat-cat adds a price and
weight to the totals of the item. If you use option
names like those above that are more than one word, do not use
spaces. Use the ( -
) or ( _
) symbol to separate the words.
Example:
fat- cat
The example
above will display a set of selection boxes like
this. Any options selected will be added
to the default price and or weight setting for the
item.
Using
the options to set the item price. Not as an added
price
For this demonstration
we will assume you have made an item in the store named Cat,
where you want to have multiple selections for the types of cats
you offer. Each type is a set price like a small Cat is $5.00 and
a large Cat is $10.00. These prices are not added to the
default price of the item Cat but if selected, become the default
price for the item. To use the options like this you would
make an item id like Cat but not set a default price for
the item in the Price box or weight in the Weight
box. You then set your first option box something like the
example below with a price and weight for each option. Then
you may set the other option boxes to add additional $ amounts and
or weights if selected using the instructions in: Using
the options to add to an items price or weight
.
You
follow the same basic data entry rules and make an
option list with a name like Size, where
customers select the size of the cat. Each size
has a set price and shipping weight.
The example
below will display a set of selection boxes like
this. Any options selected will become the
default price and or weight setting for the
item.
The drop down box
in the store would look like the box
above.
The data string you would
enter in to the Option box Size would look like
this:
Size:
You can use 1, 2 or all three of
the option fields together for an item.
Example:
Size:
Color:
Optional:
The example
above will display a set of selection boxes like
this. Notice that in the Size box
the word ADD does not show. If you do not set a
default price for an item the options become the item
price. Any options selected will be added
to the default price and or weight setting for the
item.
